The Big trout are beginning to get active down on the Cape. I caught this 19 inch Brown on Saturday afternoon. My Pal Alec and I got a bunch of smaller trout. On Sunday I hooked the biggest trout I have ever been lucky enough to fool in this pond, never saw the fish but he (she?) was in control from the moment I set the hook – and I was fishing my heavy 6 weight rod. I have fished this pond for 35 years and caught many trout in the 3-4.5 lb range; this fish was MUCH bigger! After a few minutes the hook pulled out, so the mother of all trout is still there, waiting to be caught.... But I will be going for round two next weekend...
What an awesome fish. I wish I saw that one earlier Thanks for sharing that one! are there a ton of brookies with them now or are the two species in separate areas?

What are you using for flies in these ponds? Curious. I have thought about hitting them next year for something different to do. I am not a pond fisherman but if there are big trout, I'm in ;D

Ponds??? I would fish in a sewer pipe in the middle of the city where I work to catch ones like that.... not really.... but it sounded funny! ;)

Aaron,
The Wild Brookies are only found in area streams, and are in spawning mode now, So I don't fish the streams until after the spawn is over at the end of November.
But the Cape ponds don't have wild fish in them, so that is where I am spending my time now. Most people are not aware of how good the trout fishing is on the Cape. Believe me it is awesome! The bigger ponds produce some mighty big hold-overs, and you have a real chance at a trout over 5 lbs.

This time of year I fish big streamers # 2 & 4, some of the streamers I fish look more like Striper flies than trout flies. In the spring I use Wooly buggers # 4 -8 and Bunny Leeches same sizes.
Since you got me going and I can't fish until this weekend here are some nice trout that will open your eyes to the fishery.
Ok so how and where do I go in the Northeast to go after sea trout?

There are sea-run Brown Trout on Cape Cod in Scorton Creek in Sandwich, as well as Bridge Creek in West Barnstable; best time to catch 'em is now through mid- Dec. On Scorton fish the pool right above Route 6A with Muddlers and small Clousers on the last two hours of the falling tide. Some nice trout are caught each year. Be prepared to put in a few hours for each fish - this is not fast fishing, but you might get a shot at a 4-5 lb. trout.
On the south side of the Cape there are Native sea-run Brookies in the Quashnet River, these are much smaller averaging 9 -12 inches. The Quashnet is a catch and release stream. Please do not fish for the Brookies until after they completed spawning at the end of November.
