Natchaug River Trout Park 9/21

I got out Friday afternoon and took a trip down to the Natchaug. Ended up landing 7 Rainbows and a Smallie. Took everything on a Hare's Ear, with the exception of 1 'Bow on a Parachute Adams I was using in a dry/dropper rig. Water was low, but still fishable. All in all a beautiful day off!

I was out there last week as well. Water temp was low 60's (right at daybreak) and caught a bunch of bows on a Worcester Gem wet fly. Had a guy casting a roostertail RIGHT ON TOP of my leader - he caught nothing.

I especially like the release pic, not easy to get action and detail like that, nice job.

Thanks pizzi1. It's usually hard enough getting a "still" photo, especially shooting one handed. Worcester Gem? Is that a local pattern?

Yeah, it's almost as hard as getting a pic of my kids!
Local to Worcester (as in Worcestershire UK) it's basically peacock herl, red wool tail and red game hackle AKA the "Red tag". I believe it originated in the Yorkshire area. In any event I'm a sucker for traditional wets and I couldnt pass up on something with my neighboring city's name in it.
And... it looks like a beetle, and... trout seem to like it just fine.

Do you fish that area much? Its about an hour drive for me.

I hadn't fished it for a couple years. The last time I had been there, it was being used as a swimming hole by some out-of-towners :mad:... I'm only about 15 minutes away. I'm probably going to fish some other section next time. The book "Flyfisher's Guide to Connecticut" has a lot of good info on all the access points to the river.

Thanks for the recommendation I will be sure to pick it up as the fishing and probably many other things, are better in the Nutmeg state as opposed to the PRM (People's Republic of Mass). That area in particular is quite beautiful as well.
