Well, Pickett and myself left early in the am for our ride to fish Dukes creek with a good chance of a lot of rain in the forecast. We rigged our 10ft rods, our 12-15ft leaders and our flies of choice.
So on to section 2 we went with the intention of catching some high stained water, not the case :( Switched flies back up from the typical pink SJ to something more natural. Within the first 10 minutes I was hooked up. Pickett had a tougher time getting the casting down in such tight quarters but pulled off a beauty of a fish as well. We covered a LOT of water. We Euronymphed the entire time, even in the extremely deep dark slow water. I caught big fish and small fish, and it was an overall great day.
How much is it to get a "reservation" to fish there and are the sections that are not controlled worth fishing. I'm up in Wisconsin and have family that we visit often in Atlanta and also make trips to the Helen/Suches are to ride motorcycles on the nice, twisty roads there

No cost for a reservation, just have to call and see if they have openings. There is a $5 parking fee. Never have fished Dukes outside of the Smithgall Woods Property (the managed sections). Just make sure you have no barbed flies, including in your box/pack. They fine $50 per barb.

Hi Benvan, good to see a fellow NGTO'er on here. I remember when you posted about this trip on that board...I actually have a slot @ Dukes 2/8. Last time I went was probably 10 years ago. Hard to believe work and life kept me away for so long. Anyway, I've been doing my homework because something doesn't feel right about plopping a thingamabobber on top of those big spooky fish, yet a hi-vis (amnesia red/stren gold) sighter seems a little "loud" too. Is it? I actually haven't done any tight line nymphing yet on the water – just been studying it online day and night since the holidays – and I'm crazy enough to try it for the first time on Duke's. I figured I'd get skunked anyway, so might as well start learning a different technique.
With the stealth that's need at Duke's, should I tie up some longer mono leaders? Will a sighter work and not spook? Any tips you have for a first-time tight-liner and might-as-well-be Duke's noob would be appreciated. I have a bunch of 20lb mono and some 20lb amnesia and 10lb gold stren/6 lb blue stren (and tippet, of course)...just not sure how to tie it all up for Dukes.
Thanks.
Derrick

use of a siter is no big deal and does not seem to scare fish when done properly. Take a level fly line, or WF and add the 20lb mono, I prefer pline, around 10ft of it. Then add in the siter, amnesia, then surgeons knot join the gold stren, then go to straight 4x tippet. Attach first fly about 3ft below the stren gold, then another fly 20inches below that. FOr deep runs, put the heavy fly on bottom, for shallow put the heavy fly up top. Attach the flies on the TAGS of the surgeons knot used when joining the tippet sections. Section 1 gets pounded! My favorites are 2 and 3. Stay STEALTHY! use the foilage as cover as much as possible, dress drab, wade quietly, and make the MOST of each drift. I shy away from use of gold beads, and use a black sharpy when needed to get rid of the flash.

Awesome. Headed there in the AM, to try out all this new stuff... Even made some curly Q's last night, just for laughs. Thanks a bunch.
