Farmington River,9/20-9/21
Picked up my new Sage Rod and Ross Reel. at Upcountry. What a difference from my 19 year old Orvis Rod!!!!!. Fished the Pools with 9X using tiny flying ants and a yellow olive bodied #24 parachute BWO and #18 spinner same body color. Much more activity on 9/20.than 9/21. Caught a 17inch brown, and 2- 16 inch browns plus some smaller ones and missed twice as many as I caught. It was a terrific learning experience. The water has warmed up with the weather and I got reports of the 70's in the PM.today.

I think that the rating is 1.9 pound test on the Varivas 9X midge tippet.
I take it that this is the time of the year when the water in the lake "turns" over and becomes warmer. I would think that the lower flows are actually helping to keep the water temps cooler. If there was a higher flow of the warmer water I would think that it would make the trout a little uncomfortable.
Btw... Torrey was just telling me that 25 percent of the trout that they shocked at the Farmington were in excess of 16 inches. He also noted that the DEP said that all of the extremely large ones were stocked at that size.
