Phonetic pronunciation guide
I don't want to start another discussion on whether we fly fishermen need to know the scientific name of the bugs we try to imitate. But I have found that I have become a better fisherman knowing much more than I did about the habitat and behavior of these bugs. Finding this kind of information usually requires using the scientific name in searches, especially for technical data. Problem is ..... I can't pronounce the names (many not even close) and I want to be able to do so. So I am wondering - does anyone out there know a source for a phonetic pronunciation guide to aquatic insects? Ideally it would include the common name, scientific name, and the phonetic pronunciation (suggested anyway) of the scientific name.

Re: Phonetic pronunciation guide
Hi Smokey and welcome to the site. For may flies, get "Hatches 2" by Al Caucci and the late Bob Nastasi. there is a phonetic guide there which will help you.
Re: Phonetic pronunciation guide
I have a copy of Hatches II and it is indeed helpful. From what I have learned from the book I can more or less come close with other order names etc. I am especially interested in caddis and damsel families. While I have plenty of references for scientific names of caddis and damsels, saying them correctly is another matter.
Thanks for your reply. Smokeybaum
