Re: Trouble on the Neversink
From what I hear its a long away from being a sure thing and from what I have been told the facility will be directly above the gorge.. All I have to say is that warm run off from there property will not benefit the gorge during summer heat waves...Development/Urban sprawl Will happen one day, its just a matter of time.(Its a Shame)
Re: Trouble on the Neversink
Sorry for the repeat, I posted this on another site and didn't want to type again - Casinos - what a great idea - while they are fracking in Pennsylvania lets add some more cancer and get a casino in there and add more misery and poverty to the desperate going for the home run; that's not going to happen. More Lotteries Too - Resort Jobs - minimum wage stuff for the most part on the long run - "businesses that contribute nothing but more poverty to the culture they are imbedded in" God forbid some of the gazillionaires might to have their taxes raised a bit. They can still afford Islander Reels, Champagne, Yacht Moorage, English Shot Guns, Dinner At The French Laundry, Trips To Tierra Del Fuego, and on and on. What we need are businesses that employ people that make things with a sense of pride and workmanship, rather than junk from China that comes in complicate with our own corporate masters.

Re: Trouble on the Neversink
This is one of the real reasons why fly fishing is in decline. Loss of habitat makes for less places to fish and more crowded conditions, which are not really desirable in a sport that is suppose to be about solitude. If you build this thing we will risk losing over 20 miles of trout habitat, except for the spring when it's stocked. In addition to that the brook trout, which are a native species will be eliminated. It makes me want to throw up on Patterson. You knew something fishy was up when they fired the DEC commissioner.
Re: Trouble on the Neversink
I agree Aaron. The man spend his entire career working on something special there and they pretty much showed him the door under the cover of night. A couple of weeks after he's gone and they start up on this project. This one really bothers me because of the quality of the fishery that is going to suffer. The Neversink is one of those rare streams that you'll find written up in just about any book about the history of fly fishing. For me, it was where I really learned how to fish - hopefully there are enough people out there to realize the downsides to such a project.
Re: Trouble on the Neversink
God I hate NY politics >:(
Can't wait till the trip out West with Tim this summer.
Re: Trouble on the Neversink
The 'sink is without a doubt my home river. This really is not a good idea at all. Not only does this suck cuz its a casino but all the clear-cutting they will do and all the other BS that comes with a casino. I can be on the neversink in 20 mins from door step to wet boots. Northern orange county and sullivan are congested enough, let alone all the idiots that will be here from jersey and the city to waste all their money in the casino. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid
Re: Trouble on the Neversink
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but our beloved Gov. Patterson just signed the land rights over to the tribe yesterday. The property directly off ex 107 in Bridgeville to be exact. Not as far off as you thought eh'.
Ground breaking is slated for the spring.
Now who was I debating with over the excellent job the NY DEC/DEP was doing?.............. Yup... They are awesome! >:(
Another place where you can tell your kids you used to fish.
