Housatonic in some higher water!
I guided John and his brother on the Housatonic River in Connecticut last Sunday. The weather and fall colors were spectacular, but the river was about 1,700 cfs due to rain on Thursday. When we hit the water Jack, who has fly fished a fair amount said to me... "how are we going to catch them in this?" I simply replied, "we just have to fish differently and in different locations. We rigged up and hit the water. Jack was into fish instantly. It never got really good, which was expected, but we picked away at them all day. We concentrated on the edges of the larger pools and put together a nice catch of all brown trout. Indicator Nymphing with Stoneflies and pompoms were the main meal ticket due to the high water. Here are some photos...

Re: Housatonic in some higher water!
Looks like you guys got into some nice ones! Were they recent stocked fish or did they make it through the drought and warm water conditions?
Re: Housatonic in some higher water!
The ones is the photos were holdover brown trout from the spring. We did catch some freshly stocked browns. The strange thing was that we caught no rainbows at all.

Re: Housatonic in some higher water!
IDK but E guy and I managed some pretty nice rainbows and a couple of browns the other day. There's still decent fishing there. I wonder how the conditions will be over the winter?
