We have been fishing various stages of the hatch for about two weeks. I have fished the female duns (green and black) spinners and drowned spinners. Size 20 seems to work fine. All of the fishing has been very good. http://<a href="http://i513.photobuc...210649.jpg</a>

I've fished there quite a few times during late August and you always hear people talking about how good the tricos were. Maybe they will be talking about how good they are in the next few years. I am sure that it has a lot to do with the higher water levels in the lake and resultant higher flows in the river over the last five years. I remember one year the flow was 900 cfs from the dam.

Re: Big Horn Trico Hatch
I fish with a bunch of guys who have fished the river for twenty years. They say this current hatch is the way it used to be. One interesting phenomenon is the stacking up of fish in fast deep riffles to eat the drowned Tricos. I stopped at a famous riffle and looked in the water and I thought I saw debris all through the riffles. There were black streaks in the water everywhere. Upon closer observation it was clear they were trout . Nice fish all in the 16 to twenty range. They never surfaced , and only moved slightly from side to side. I put on my drowned trico beadhead and caught fish for an hour. I kept track of my hook ups . I had a hit or a hook up on every third cast. I know it was the trico spiner fall because several fish disgorged huge amounts of tricos when I unhooked them.
