When does the Housatonic perennially get cool enough to fish for trout again? Also has anyone ever fished below the Cornwall TMA section where Macedonia Brook or Kent Falls brook empty in to the river...I know they both those tributaries have really healthy populations of wild brookies and browns and imagine where they empty in would get consistently overlooked as most people just focus on the TMA section.

Re: Housatonic...
The fishing can be very good below the TMA. However, it's going to be some time before the Housatonic is fishable again. Trout fishing will begin again when you get a few nights with lows in the low 50's and highs in the low 70's. I have heard numerous reports of dead fish floating everywhere. The good news is that they are mostly larger stocked rainbows. I hope that the nice brown trout make it through.
So the simple answer to when is to keep checking the weather for a forecast of cooler weather.

Re: Housatonic...
Shit that sucks to hear about the rainbows...they close macedonia and kent falls brook along with the first 100 feet from where it empties into the housatonic from June 15th-August 31st every year because of the heat to protect the trout populations so I hope the same isn't going on up there since although it's better shaded, the brookies have even a lower tolerance for warm water than the rainbows. Speaking of rainbows though are there any rivers around here that have any good numbers of wild rainbows or would the closest be Esopus?
