I have been a proponent of UpCountry on the Farmington to the Nth degree. They have a reputation of high integrity and they are a model for how a business should serve the fly fishing comunity including paying the clinitions they bring in.
Unfortunately there are other businesses in our sport who do not follow the same high standards.

Re: Fly Shops
One thing is certain, a shops reputation good or bad with regards to how it deals with the public, its customers, and also its pro sub contractors, will ultimately have an affect on its future viability and success.

Re: Fly Shops
I try to support the good ones whenever I can since they face very stiff competition from internet shops/sites. It's very tempting to buy higher-end items off the internet and pay no taxes/get free shipping tho good service from local shops holds value to me. One up-state NY fly shop I frequent has shipped items (an Echo Shadow rod) to me free or given me a break (on a TFO Switch Rod) when I'm in the shop - this is a go-to shop for me.
