Foam body on a nymph?!

A cool cranefly larva pattern one of the CO guides came up with for around here.

He also makes it with a green foam underbody, known as the "Unripe" Banana Split...

Would not be my first choice as a body material but, it does give it nice segmentation and seems very easy to tie. Foam loses much of it's floatation once wrapped like the yellow is. I'm looking at cranefly larvae as an anchor fly so I'll stick with the barr's cranefly.

I finaly have a use for my hooks that look like that. I have had them for a year and could only think of a sanwan worm(or however you spell it) to tie with them. :)
I just use foam from the dollar store. same quality with a quarter the price.
