I picked up the rod from school the other day and finally fished it today. The rod is very crisp and responsive. When Pete told me it might too stiff, I was thinking to myself, dammit, this thing is going to be a broom stick. The slightly faster action casts the longer leader system very well. I also noticed that from take to hook set was much faster with this rod. The hooks were set in the roof of the fish's mouth more than not, which tells me that I was able to hook the fish as soon as the take registered. Very few fish were hooked in the side of the mouth, which would indicate that there was some lag time between the take and hookset.
The rod kept the fish on quite well. The tip is bouncy enough to keep the fish on. I fished 6X tippet today and the only breakoffs were to trees :) It played even the smallest fish quite well.
The rod performed extremely well and the extra six inches makes a difference from the Greys. The Greys is a great rod. However, they have a little catching up to do right now...

I agree Rainbow! I really like that reel.
Re: ECHO Shadow PE Euro Nymphing Rod
Some other interesting features are that the rod is a matte black finish and the guides are black as well. The rod is very light for it's length. There is minimal light reflection off of the rod. This will help not to spook for in low clear water conditions. If anyone does not think that a rod can spook fish needs to make a trip to the Letort of Falling Springs in the C and R stretch!
Re: ECHO Shadow PE Euro Nymphing Rod
I can add testimony that the Letort has the spookiest fish in the world. The mere drop of the line on a good cast with a #22 midge can get you a broken leg with the way those trout bug-out. I had two trout hit my shins after my son spooked then with a poor layout of the line---I thought I had hit a a rock at first. Amen to that "Doc"

AJ,
I'm glad you like the Shadow's so far... keep the reviews coming as you fish the rods more...you feedback is very important in the development process...
Tim and the folks at Rajeff Sports will have beannie hats and T-shirts with the "nymph man" logo on them! I can hardly wait to explain what the "nymph man" on my hat means to parents of my 9th grade students--lol! probably not a great hat to wear when your "trying" to pick up chicks either :o
Re: ECHO Shadow PE Euro Nymphing Rod
You don't think the chickies will dig the "nymph man" hat??
Re: ECHO Shadow PE Euro Nymphing Rod
now that you mention it...I'm ordering two of them
Re: ECHO Shadow PE Euro Nymphing Rod
Ah,another teacher. A great vocation which provides the combination of time and the "where with all" to fish alot and in a variety of locations. No wonder you guys are so good.lol! Seriously though, I feel sorry for the poor guys that don't have a job and are pineing away their time and efforts with hopes of believing they can make a living off of fly fishing. The sad truth is that for most, it is not possible.
