Shellback for czech nymphs
Hi, Just wondering what everyone uses for czech nymph shellback. So far I've tied them with magic foil pearl strips and 1/8" scud back. Is there any other materials that are good to use? Tied some and tried them out and caught fish in the tough part of the Quittaphilla creek, the delayed harvest. Brown w/black head worked. Weird part is only pulled fish of of two sets of riffles. Tried a couple of other riffles and nothing. I know know what was up with that. Only thing I can figure is the area I caught the fish was a deep pool. The rest of the areas weren't as deep, maybe that was it??

Were they wild or hatchery fish?
The two materials that you mentioned are the two that I use. I really like the magic shrimp foil. The effect that it creates is amazing. If you want to dull it down a touch, run clear 1/8" scud back over the top of it. That works well too. I rarely only use plain scud back anymore.
Re: Shellback for czech nymphs
I use the scud back and also nymph skin that I picked up via J Stockard. Both have served me well. I don't use the shrimp foil much.

I use alot of body stretch, but have been thinking about trying the Thin Skin in different colors.

Aaron, do you use fine or standard foil strips. Only reason I ask is the standard seems to cover a good part of the back of the fly. Sounds like a good idea to put the scud back over the foil strip. It just seems like the czech nymphs are a bit bright with the pearl strips.
Just wanted to make sure I was tracking right. Whats a good replacement hook for the knapek that's not so expensive?
Re: Shellback for czech nymphs
I use the fine ones. However, you can make due with the standard strips. All that you have to do is stretch them. They are durable and by stretching them you can get them to the width that you are looking for.
