HAPPY '60TH' BIRTHDAY, Davy Wotton!!!!
[move]HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Davy![/move] ;) On this day, November 17, 1950 in the United Kingdom the fly tying/fly fishing world was going to have a new member. His parents named him David, in a few years this would change to Davy; the fly tying and fly fishing world would come to know who he was, from around the world he soon was known as the inventor of "Synthetic Living Fibre", SLF Dubbing. Earlier this year at a fly tying event I over-heard a friend of Davy's remarked to another person, "if you own two flies, I can guarantee that there is a material, tool or technque used to create that fly that Davy Wotton had a hand in." These words were not argued by the listner. Let's celebrate another year with Davy and his part in a sport that we love and share our well wshes on Davy's Birthday by letting hm know how much we appreciate what he means to us through the accomplishments in his life...Share a word with Davy now. Happy birthday, Davy. Little known facts, Davy taught a YOUNG Queen Victoria to fly fish and Davy fought at Rorke's Drift. LOL Seriously though, I have learned so much from Davy's DVD. I would not have known anything about wet fly fishing but for Davy's DVC.
I was watching Flyfishing TV and saw Davy catching fish in the most amazing and novel way. I couldnt wait to get the DVD. I am awaiting the next DVD for more on wet fly fishing and tying the flies.
Re: HAPPY '60TH' BIRTHDAY, Davy Wotton!!!!
TBird,
People have absulutely no idea how many different things involving fly fishing that Davy has had a hand in. SLF is only one small part... And yes guys he made every one, not just the ones that bear his name. He designed hooks not just for Partridge, but for many other hook companies. He has also had a hand in many of the modern fly lines and modern graphite rods. I am amazed every time we talk. I always find out that he was behind the creation of something different every time! But forget about all that small stuff! He has been a great friend!!
Re: HAPPY '60TH' BIRTHDAY, Davy Wotton!!!!
Happy birthday to one of the true innovators of our sport! I had the opportunity to meet Davy when he came to Connecticut to present to us a two day fly fishing seminar this past spring. That seminar was the best fly fishing investment I could have made and the knowledge I picked up continues to benefit me to this day. Also, thanks for being a part of the TPO community. Your well thought out posts are priceless!

Your in-depth knowledge of all things fly fishing is unsurpassed. Thank you for taking the time to teach the next generation of anglers. Happy birthday.
