I stopped by the Willi at lunch to see what the level was so I could fish this afternoon. Level is high and little fast. pretty clear and just over 50. There were some stones and hendrickson hatching this afternoon. Not crazy or heavy but around. I watched a few fish rise (usual spots) but spotty.
I got to the river around 5:30pm with my goal of fishing with the Wooly buggers I tied this week (my first ties). I missed about 5 fish before I remembered a tip about long tails and the fish striking short. so I snipped the tail and fish on. ;D Holy crap, I actually caught a fish on something I tied. WOW. I can't believe it and I'm still smiling. It was a nice little brown (10 -11 inch). Ofcourse I lost that fly, but I guess I'll just tie another. I had a couple hits on the standard black bugger I tied and the many more on the black STS (see my post in the fly tying section for this one I found on youtube). I normally fish Olive buggers so I switched to a standard Olive WB that I tied and had another hit and that was when I remembered about trimming the tail, next cast hooked up. I only saw 2 rises and talking with a few others, not much happening.
I can't wait to get out this weekend and try some more of the WBs I tied. Thanks to everyone for the input to my tying questions.
Enjoy the good weather and get out on the water.

congrats on taking a fish on a fly you tied ... I just finished a few nymphs and a green WB, and I hope to catch something tomorrow on the Assabet here in MA on something I've tied!

Way to go. Not much beats taking fish on your own creation.
