greys streamfles 11ft weight 3
I am using the TFO ten foot weight five rod for euro-nymphing. I am considering purchasing the greys 11 footer weight three. What are the performance differences between the TFO ten footer and the greys . Or in other words what makes the greys a better rod.
Re: greys streamfles 11ft weight 3
The Greys build quality is a bit better. The extra foot will help you extend your drifts especially when long-lining. The softer action of the 3 weight will give you greater sensitivity for strike detection and better ability to keep fish on once hooked. You can always relegate the TFO 10ft 5wt as your wet fly rod.

Thanks Alan- The site looks great by the way

I certainly can see the merits of the softer flex. I fished the Naugy on Sunday morning...between the bridges and took several bows euro style. Convinced I missed more subtle takes with the 10 foot 5 weight tfo....
going to need to look into the greys or similar offering.

You will like the Greys and for 300 bones its a steal!
Re: greys streamfles 11ft weight 3
So I bought the ten foot weight 3 greys rod yesterday at Housatonic Outfitters . I fished it today for about five hours. The first thing I noticed was the difference the greys felt much lighter than my TFO five weight. My casting accuracy improved significantly. I detected more strikes and the rod was in general more pleasing to use. Thanks Guys for the good advice. Oh almost forgot !!! I also caught a lot of fish.

So you opted for the shorter ten-footer? How come?

Alain-
The Greys Streamflex is only available currently up to 10' in #3-5, but next year there are supposed to do the #3-5 in 11' models. The Hardy Marksman Drifter is currently available in an 11' #5, and next year they will do an 11' #4 in that also. But, at about $700, the Marksman Drifter is a much more expensive rod.
