The cold weather has kept me out of the rivers so I have had some time on my hands . I am working on Czech-Nymphs. I tied this Nymph with a thin skin back and Davy Wotton Squirrel Dubbing. I would like to know if I am getting this right . The Fly Fishermen I know don,t Euro-Nymph .
That's a killer looking nymph! Very very fishy. This may be redundant, but make sure you tie up a variety of czech nymphs in various size/weights and color variations/hotspots so you can accommodate a variety of water types and feeding cycles. Many times Czech or Euro Nymphing is less about the dressing and more about how the presents in a "team".
I think I'm going to go tie a handful of those right now.

That looks great. Is that a 37160 hook? You may want to see the FOTM I did for a Czech nymph. Perhaps a scud type hook (2457, 2499) might give a more traditional look, but yours is great nonetheless.

Thanks for the feedback Alan and Dejon - The hook is a 37160 mustad . I think I can figure out the color variations from the patterns listed in the Czech Nymph book by karel Krivaniec . I am confused about the range of hook sizes to use. Could you tell me the range of sizes you would use assuming the 2457 or 2499 hook.

Re: Czech - Nymphs
Hook sizes range from 10 - 18. Green and tan with and without hot spots are really popular.

wwelz,
The only suggestion that I would make for that fly is to make the dark head much smaller in relation to the body. I make the head maybe 1/10th of the body size.
