I took a ride by the Farmington today (1/17/08) and was not surprised to see ice but I was surprised to see church pool close to being completly frozen. When I say completly frozen I mean from under the bridge all the way past the handicap fishing area. I also saw that greenwoods, the boneyard, and schoolbus all look like hocky rinks. So I think I'll hold off on fishing for a while.

Re: Freezing Farmington
Thanks for that update, that's really useful. We are having a real winter and more snow tomorrow.

yes we really are having a cold winter. I was going to try to get up to the Farmigton to take a water temp today but it's been snowing very hard all day where I am, and the roads are slick. Hopefully I'll be able to tell you the temp on monday.

Re: Freezing Farmington
I'm betting it's 32 degrees (0 if you prefer C)

Re: Freezing Farmington
Grady told me there was anchor ice present on the stream bottom Saturday morning, but it cleared out by the same afternoon. The warmest water right now would be on the upper river, between the Still River & the damn- about a 2 mile stretch. Water is densest at 39.2 degrees and it is a bottom release dam. I've fished that upper stretch in the Winter when the TMA was unfishable due to ice & slush. I've never seen the section below the dam get unfishable due to cold weather. You would probably find water temps in that section ranging in the 34-37 degree range, getting cooler the farther downstream you go, and much cooler from the Still River down (probably still unfishable below that at the moment).

Re: Freezing Farmington
I guess it could be fishable if you stick to the non-frozen broken water. But this time of year I like to fish places like the boneyard (which is completly frozen), or under the bridge at church pool which is also frozen except the faster center part under the bridge. So for now anyway I'm staying away.
