I haven't fished this way much lately, but I was on sort of an articulated streamer kick late summer. I am still a big believer in the articulated cougars in yellow or olive. The Slide Inn web-site has dozens of meaty-looking streamers for big browns.
Dr. Dave, I haven't fished streamers that much yet this fall, but when I have, the best producers have been a marabou rabbit streamer that I tie (white has been the best color so far) and a Clouser tied with white bucktail and pearl crystal flash. Last fall the best streamer for me was one that I tie using the fur from the tail of my retriever mix as the wing and tied like the Ghost patterns. It was deadly!!! I call it the October Ghost. Of course, we all know what my favorite streamer is. I will vote in your poll around the begining of November when I have a better Idea of what streamer worked the best this fall.
Give me the Rattlesnake in tan or the Sex Dungeon in olive or tan and I will give the trout a beating. Jointed streamers are killer! It's like using a lure.... but better! Kelly is the number one streamer guy... period. Some people can try to copy and imitate the patterns but their can not come near his.
I only fished a streamer once so far this fall and it was a double bunny, one of my favorites. I had 2 browns hammer it but they both got off. I love streamer fishing. I am a firm believer of the big fly/big fish theory. My favorite bunny colors are yellow/black, natural/black, and olive/black.
Get yourself the Kelly Galloup dvd's if you want some killer flies. I just finished some yellow articulated zoo cougars that look great in the water. Can't wait to try them out. Sex dungeons are also killers. This winter I am going to work on some T & A rainbows.
Unfortunately I probably won't be fishing much in the near future. My wife is pregnant and due in 10 days.
Emerger,
Good luck with the baby! You should send me those flies so I can tell you how well they work! ;D
Thanks Aaron. You already know how they work ;D. I've seen your Montana pictures.

All the best on your growing family! You will be surprised how much tying time you will have when you are home with a sleeping infant! When you tie the big T&A flies let us know; Aaron and I both tied some this summer for the Farmington. I had a couple of breathtaking swipes on them, but no solid hookups. All of Kelly's flies are carefully designed for success - they are the best, I love the DVD.
well Damnit...
I guess the PMS didnt make the list... oh well there is always next year...
I had to vote other... the PMS is starting to pick up the action...
One deadly pattern (or more correctly, style) you don't see much in fresh water is the Lefty's deceiver. I tie them sparse, bonito style to mimic the local forage, which is mostly shiners around here. Instead of a full collar, a small bunch of calftail top and bottom extending to the bend of the hook. Body of pearl or metallic body braid and a little flash on the wing and you're all set. I tie them down to size ten, usually on a 2X hook or thereabouts. They're also killers on landlocked salmon when tied in traditional streamer colors. Olive wing, silver/gold/pearl body seems to draw the most strikes in this neck of the woods. (RI)
