3. All participants should send their flies o me by March 1st 2008
4. Tiers, please send your flies in a strong and big enough container to hold the flies you will receive back. Please place your name and address on the container.
5. Include a self addressed envelop that is strong enough for the container you send and will receive back. I suggest a visit to the post office for this so it can be weighed and the postage is stamped on the return envelop.
6. Optional, a small "toe tag" on the fly, that includes the name of the fly and your name.
7. Optional, include the tying instructions. I can make copies to send to the recipients.
8. If you have questions, email me or post on this thread.
9. Please notify me when you have sent you flies.
10. I will post when the flies are on their way to the participants.
11. Have fun!

Great, I'm glad I got volunteered, I'm definitely in! Funny, I was also thinking of a sort of TPO fly swat, what a great idea. Before I enlist my fly selection, I have to discuss it with Aaron to see what I can offer bet. I'm afraid that I only have one really unique pattern to offer (sculpin), but perhaps something else will come up. I'll have an answer soon. Looking really forward to getting all of your guys' flies into my box!

Snow day, good day for tying. I am done. These will be in the mail next week.

Fly swappers, save this fly until you are certain you see a big, big brown sipping spinners. The quill body is not that durable, and I don't lacquer them. A good presentation with this fly should nail those sippers. The balance of these flies is a little tricky, so after I tie them, I drop them vertically about 4 feet in to my hand to make sure they land upright. I tested all of these.

I can't remember exactly if I saw this fly in a book or magazine, but it is probably a pattern from A. K. Best or something similar. These are tied in a size that has been successful for me on the Houstatonic the last decade. During mid to late April, it's probably best to wait until about 8:00pm to tie this on and fish it. You can also tie this style with a yellow dubbing egg ball in between the tails, but I like the darker, contrasting silhouette.

Recipe for Red Quill Parachute Spinner:

Hook: TMC 5212 Size 14
Parachute Post: Dun Turkey Flat
Hackle: Blue Dun Saddle
Dubbing ball for tail and at thorax: Rusty Spinner Beaver
Tail: Dun Microfibbets, about two on each side
Body: Stripped quill dyed rusty brown (red quill)
Thread: Rusty dun Uni-Thread 8/0


When you dress this fly with floatant, dress only the hackle and the tails carefully. The quill body should sit in the film, not on it.

Night Fisher & I both mailed our flies out today. I hear his Iso nymph is DEADLY. Hope the BH Twist Nymphs I tied are as effective for you guys as they've been for me.

I mailed my 13 Red Quills yesterday. Hope they travel well; I packaged them as well as I could. It would have been better to put them in a small (cheap, light) fly box.

My Red Quill story...about 10 years ago, I had a frustrating Friday night waiting for the Hendrickson spinners to fall. It was one of those nights when the sky was loaded with bugs, but due to temperature or wind or both, they never came down (I waited until about 930pm). I drove home upset that all I had to show was a few small fish (the river was fishing exceptionally well that season). Next morning, I can't sleep, so I drag myself back up there (70 mile drive one way). As I'm driving, overcast sets in. This time I decide to fish the upper TMA and I arrive around 830am. After a long walk through the silty mud and 1200cfs water, I round the bend. What do I see? Spinners, and lots of them, no fishermen in sight! First cast, a fat 16in fish, second cast a really fat 20in holdover brown! Caught these on this red quill fly.

Two nights later, I'm back down in the park. Waiting for a while, almost dark. Too dark to see, but just enough light over the hill to cast a whitish glare on the water. I make out some tiny, tiny dimples and cast upstream about 30 feet. First drift, another huge one nails it. I landed that one too, again a fat 20in brown.

How can you tell the differents between the sprey and stinger flies?

Received mine today. Thank you to all, they are spectacular! I am holding one pattern is especially high regard, a fantastic isonychia from nightfisher. I've never seen a finer example or a more realistic match to that all-important fly. I am keeping that fly (forever) as a model, thank you Tony.

just got home to my surprise . these are beautiful ,The isonychia caught my eye as well love the use of the fine metal back .Nice fly ,I might have to do mine for the next swap but I dont know if I could finish them all in time ,it is very complicated ,I will see .Mr brasko Im super impressed I dont want that one to touch water ,nice .
