Does someone have a good pattern to offer? I only know a few from LaFontaine and Borger. I think this fly becomes important with the early spring rains.

I can film a really simple one that I make.

How about a little black stone tie for feb. and a grannom tie for march? Anyone got any ideas?

I am sorry I didn't get to tie the FOTM. A very close friend's dad passed away so I have been busy visiting the family and taking time out to go see my old friend. Tomorrow (Friday) I will get it filmed. Justin said that he could get it up ASAP.

Aaron, so sorry to hear that. From my perspective, no need to rush with the Jan. FOTM. When it gets done, it gets done, no big deal. All the best to you.

Aaron,

Terrific fly, thanks for a great job. I'll tie some up right away!

Next month or so, I think a black winter stonefly might FOTM be good. I can do Charlie's Nymph from the Maryland guys if you want.

It's basically a 16-20 black Hare's Ear with a split black Krystal flash tail.

That would be a great idea. People have been asking about that one!

Alain, you fished that pattern? I read & saw it, never tried it although it looks "fishy". I've never personally had very good results imitating & fishing the smaller early season stones with specific imitations.

I fished a very similar size 16 Black Haretron Hare's Ear style nymph in the Farmington one March and caught a few fish, not that much success, though. This fly is the "Guide to Maryland Trout Fishing," and uses black krystal flash for a split tail; maybe that's the trigger the fish need. The fly's originator Charlie Gelso is a professor at Maryland College Park and fishes the Western MD rivers extensively. The books co-author runs the Bass Pro Shop FF Dept in the Anne Arundel Mall there.

I'll tie some up for the next FOTM. I might just take pictures of the tie, if I can't get the webcam angles right.

Guys,
I did the FOTM write-up for Charlie's nymph and sent it to Justin. I did it sort of quick, so if there is something better to offer, I won't be offended at all. Thanks. Alain
